My First Ceramic Experience

Atelier Make

Summer 2016, I was free to try whatever I wanted. I had money, no commitment, my career/school path was in a limbo, and more or less free time. I always wanted to practice yoga, do stuff I love, take art classes like pottery, so I decided to just do it because I knew that I might not have this opportunity anytime soon (and I was right).

Atelier Make have few classes a week with a small group of students from all kind of backgrounds and ages. Each class was 3 hours long and everyone was so welcoming and genuinely nice.

We started with simple techniques to prepare the clay. Then, we proceeded to create mugs and bowls from molding to glazing it.

The whole process is very relaxing and feels like meditation. It requires a lot of concentration to control your mouvements. I particularly love to feel the clay dance between my hands and fingers and to shape it however I want it.

It turned out to be one of my best experiences and I deeply fell in love with the art of pottery. Looking forward to do more of it very soon!

I totally agree with you! I have found ceramics and the wheel to be an excellent creative release and stress reducer – even when things go wrong!
